The Back Story:
The Wild West Revisited - Surf Meets Turf
On the morning of July 26, 2007, Surf City became Cow Town for a few hours. Residents stared at the unusual twist of horse-riding cowboys and cows mixed with wave riding surfers sharing the same beach. Forty some cowboys drove one hundred Hereford cattle more than a mile down the beach. In honor of the tradition of cow herding on the beach, one of the teams of wranglers was named the Long Board Cowboys. Sponsored by the Orange County Fair, the event also highlighted the annual U.S. Open of Surfing held in Huntington Beach, California.
