The Back Story:

The rosette symbol (considered to be the oldest of Hex Sign symbols) is often meant to bring good luck.  Additionally any six-petaled flower/star is sometimes considered a fertility sign and is painted on utensils and tools related to livestock, especially horses, on linen, on weaver’s tools, mangling boards
and other items.

The “Pennsylvania Dutch” (Deutsch) or “Pennsylvania Germans”, sometimes known as the “fancy” Dutch, created beautiful folk art designs often referred to as “hex signs.”  These signs were painted on their barns and sometimes on their houses.  Hex signs are traditionally round, utilizing this ancient symbol of continuity.  What goes around comes around.    Many legends surround the hex sign.  Some people affix magical powers to them, while others just enjoy the simple, colorful geometric
