The Back Story:
Lahaina's Nautical Heritage
Historic Lahaina Harbor on Maui was the whaling capital of the world at the end of the 1800s, when whalers docked there for supplies and crew recruiting twice a year.
Today the placid harbor, a popular tourist destination, and long time home to the late Carthaginian II sailing brig, a steel-hulled replica of the two-masted ships that first brought commerce to the Hawaiian Islands. The floating museum’s exhibits were dedicated to whales and the whaling industry.
About the Artist: Jim Krogle, a graduate of Chouinard Art Institute, has enjoyed an extensive career as an American Illustrator. He now follows his true passion painting the beach and surfscene he grew up with. Visit www.jimkrogle.com.
