The Back Story:
Bass Harbor Head
The Bass Harbor Head lighthouse is located at
the entrance to Bass Harbor on Mount Desert Island in Maine. The tower was built in 1858. It is located within a U.S. Coast Guard base and serves as an active aid to navigation. The lighthouse was automated in 1974 and still uses the fourth order Fresnel lens that was installed in 1902.
About The Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper’s Log a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
