The Back Story:
Hilton Head
This iconic lighthouse has been home to the 18th hole for “The Heritage” PGA golf tournament since 1969. The ninety-foot, red-and-white-striped octagonal tower is the visual centerpiece of the popular Sea Pines resort on Hilton Head Island. Its white light flashes every two and a half seconds to mark the Inland Waterway and Calibogue Sound. Completed in 1970, Harbour Town Light was the first privately financed lighthouse in the U.S. and is officially classified as a facsimile rather than a navigational aid. Those who climb to the top are rewarded
with a spectacular panoramic view of the beautiful surrounding areas.
