The Back Story:
Celtic Knot
Celtic knot work is instantly recognizable for its patterns of interwoven loops, symbolic of continuum and eternity. Historically, these designs were often used as illustrations in scriptures and religious manuscripts, and as ornaments on Christian monuments, although there is little evidence that any of the patterns held special significance for the Celts. They were a tribal people who occupied land in modern day Eastern Europe, Greece, Spain, Northern Italy, Western Europe, England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, in the early centuries A.D. Today, these motifs are often associated with Irish, Scottish or Welsh folklore, although their influence is also seen in ancient jewelry and stonework throughout modern Europe.
