Geometric Abstracts
Industrial design often includes geometrics, such as this intricate design of overlapping curves on a manhole cover manufactured in the last half of the 1800s.
Patterns featuring repeating lines, curves, surfaces and shapes please the eye and stimulate the imagination. Geometric patterns are popular motifs in a variety of decorative ornamentation such as poster-art, fabrics, stained glass and other types of wall decoration. Typical designs include interlocking repetitive shapes, mirror-image symmetry and optical illusions, from the intricate to the simple. Geometric patterns sometimes represent something from nature – a feather, a star, a leaf or a flower. Some designs even appear to be in perpetual motion.
