The Back Story:
Rosette With Scallops, Encased in Feathers
Much of this design is a series of feathers placed in a circular star formation around a center rosette with scallops. Circles and stars are what we see when we look into the heavens and flowers (rosettes) are part of the beauty of earth. Whatever else they might mean, there is a visual poetry to the display of primal symbols: a haiku for the eyes. As for meaning, perhaps they were painted wishes or even prayers. Feathers have been a symbol of prayer, marks of honor or sources of ideas. In a circular arrangement, they are related to the sun and Creator. Stars provide: protection, good fortune, hope, love, fertility, energy and harmony. The circle is an ancient symbol of eternity or infinity. The rosette is meant to bring good luck and scallops frequently represent ocean waves and smooth sailing.
