The Back Story:
Forms of the Hex Sign
Hex signs average four feet in diameter, ranging from three feet to as large as eight feet. The side of the barn that faces out over the stable area, often considered the front of the building, is where they are usually placed. The upper part of that side called the ‘forebay’, usually has three, or as many as five, evenly spaced hex signs.
The most common motifs found on traditionally painted barns are 4- point stars, 5-point stars, 6-point stars, 8-point stars, 12-point stars, rosettes, swirls, and wheels.
