The Back Story:
Horse Weathervane
Weathervanes are one of the oldest forms of weather prediction. Weathervanes are mentioned in the ancient writings of Mesopotamia, from over 3500 years ago. The Chinese also talk about strings or flags being used to read wind direction in writings dated to the 2nd Century B.C.
The horse represents strength, devotion and loyalty, stamina and power, as well as power and freedom. This symbol has been reflected in the desire of people to feature the shape of a horse on their weathervane beginning in the 1800’s.
