Howling Wolf
Wolves travel great distances to find food and are sometimes separated from one another. The low pitch and long duration of their howls are well suited for transmission over great distances, and the unique features of each individual’s howl allow wolves to identify each other. Separate a wolf from its pack, and very soon it will begin howling and howling.
A wolf’s auditory perception is very sharp and under certain conditions, wolves can hear as far as six miles away in the forest and ten miles on the open tundra. Their hearing is so sharp they can hear the fall of leaves in autumn.
