The Back Story:

Koala - (Phascolarctos cinereus)

Although they resemble a cuddly bear-like child’s toy, the Koala is a marsupial, a mammal that carries its young in a pouch. Their fur is thick and wooly, varying from grey to brown, with white patches on chest, neck and inside the ears.
Koalas are especially suited to life as tree-dwellers, with long muscular limbs and a good sense of balance. All four paws have thick pads and five fingers, including opposable digits, plus large, sharp claws with which to grip a tree’s trunk. They are adept climbers to reach the leaves of the Eucalyptus (gum) tree, their main diet.
Koalas are nocturnal animals, sleeping up to 18 hours a day. They live in the coastal woodlands of eastern and southern Australia.
