The Back Story:

Horton Point

Erected in 1857; almost 100 years after George Washington first visited Southold, and proposed a location for the Horton Point light station. The station consists of a 55-foot high tower and a two-story keeper’s residence.
During World War II, it was used as a lookout point by the military. At the end of the war, the Lighthouse was abandoned, and fell into disrepair. Restoration was carried out from the 70’s, well into the 90’s by the Southold Historic Society and others. Today, it serves as a nautical museum plus it remains an active aid to navigation.

About the Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper's Log, a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
