The Back Story:
Lorain
The history of the Lorain Lighthouse began with a simple lantern hanging on a pole at the waters edge. The first actual Lighthouse would be built in 1837, toward the end of the West River Pier, eventually being replaced by the current 51-foot tall structure in 1917. Although out of service, the Lorain Lighthouse remains as “The Jewel of the Port” to its harboring city.
About the Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper's Log, a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
