The Back Story:

North Head

The century-old North Head Lighthouse, completed in 1898, guides mariners approaching from the North of the Columbia River. It was built in response to a marked increase in the number of shipwrecks along the Peninsula as mariners coming from the north could not see the Cape Disappointment light. It stands 65-feet high and more than 190-feet above sea level. This Lighthouse is maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard as an aid to maritime navigation.
About The Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper’s Log a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
