The Back Story:
Maple Leaf
Maple leaves have distinctive characteristics and shifting colors that make this tree stand out as the seasons change. Throughout most of the year many types of maples maintain a light to medium-green color that transforms into shades of red, orange, crimson, yellow, brown and bi-colors as autumn sets in. The shape and texture of the leaves vary, depending on the particular variety of tree. Many maple leaves have three or more lobes and jagged edges that make the leaves easy to distinguish. There are around a dozen maple tree species which are native to the United States, with most of them in portions of the eastern half of the country.
