The Back Story:

The Thunderbirds - North American Indian Art Symbol - Amikig Bnesi

To the Anishinabek Indians, these powerful, immortal spirits live with the Sun/Creator (or Geesis) on the level of the universe above the sky.  They hunt with lightning and bless the earth with rain.  They can bestow many blessings on humans, including success in war.  In the fall, Animikig Bnesi fly to warmer climates.  In the spring, when we hear the first thunder it is a sign that they have returned.
