The Back Story:
Orcas - Wolves of the Sea
Orcas are actually dolphins. And they are the largest of the dolphin family species. They can reach a maximum length of over 30 feet and can weigh up to 16,000 pounds. Next to humans, orcas are the most widely dispersed mammal. Orcas inhabit all oceans of the world but are most numerous in the Arctic areas. Orcas are at times referred to as “killer whales”, because of their fierce reputation as hunters. This is not because they harm humans but because they do sometimes kill other whales and seals, hunting them in packs thereby earning the title “Wolves of the Sea.”
