The Back Story:
Pineapple - Hex Sign
The pineapple has been a universal symbol of hospitality and welcome as well as a communal symbol of friendship for many centuries all over the world.
The “Pennsylvania Dutch” (Deutsch) or “Pennsylvania Germans”, sometimes known as the “fancy” Dutch, created beautiful folk art designs often referred to as “hex signs.” These signs were painted on their barns and sometimes on their houses. Hex signs are traditionally round, utilizing this ancient symbol of continuity. What goes around comes around. Many legends surround the hex sign. Some people affix magical powers to them, while others just enjoy the simple, colorful geometric designs.
