The Back Story:

Qimmiq

The Inuit dog, or Qimmiq, along with the Inuit people have survived the freezing temperatures and snow covered terrain of the Arctic for around 5000 years. With dog teams hitched to sleds people came over the ice bridge of the Bering Straits from present day Mongolia beginning in 800 B.C. Without the Qimmiq sleddog, the Inuit people would not have survived this harsh environment. Sled dog teams were used to explore both the North and South Poles. It simply could not have happened without them. It was common up until the 1960s for families to travel back and forth from Canada and Greenland this way. Native people still prefer this form of transportation.
