The Back Story:
A Mighty Fine Wine Indeed
Rubies and garnets, cherries and plums – words that describe the hues and flavors of red wines conjure up visions of gemstones and some of Nature’s tastiest fruits. Is it any wonder this popular beverage, made by crushing grapes and fermenting the resulting juice, enchants so many of us?
Red wine lovers have as many as 50 varietals to choose from, representing wine-making regions around the world. The color comes from the skins of the grapes used to make the wine, and depends on how long they stay in the juice during fermentation.
Red wines are best served at 60-65 degrees F. in a glass with an egg-shaped bowl, allowing plenty of surface area for the wine to breathe.
