Redwood Trees
California Redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) are nature’s skyscrapers. These enormous trees exist primarily in Northern California. Redwoods get their common name from their bark and heartwood, a reddish-brown color which stems from high tannin levels. Their thick bark holds large quantities of water, which helps to protects them from periodic, naturally occurring fires. They reach mesmerizing heights of around 350 feet. With a truly distinctive appearance, these ancient trees are among the most fascinating and unique trees in all the world.
