The Back Story:

San Juan Islands Map

The San Juan Islands are an archipelago of more than 128 islands, and rocks located in the Salish Sea off the northwest corner of Washington State. The islands are famous for their rugged beauty and abundant wildlife. San Juan Island is home to the lively seaside town of Friday Harbor, Lime Kiln Point State Park, a favorite orca-whale lookout, and the boater’s oasis Roche Harbor. Orcas Island, the horseshoe-shaped island, features Moran State Park’s old-growth forest, lakes and the 2399 foot Mt. Constitution. Lopez Island known as “The Friendly Isle”— combines evergreen forests with rolling farmlands, quiet bays, and driftwood-strewn beaches with views of snowcapped mountain ranges. Shaw Island is the least populated with its relaxed atmosphere, sandy beaches, easy terrain for cycling and natural beauty .
