The Back Story:

Snowboarding Terms

Big Air refers to when a rider launches from a jump mainly to gain height and distance. Frontside and backside are words used to describe how a rider approaches an obstacle, either facing towards or away. Switch-stance is the reverse of a natural stance, while a fakie is when a rider is traveling backwards while the feet remain in the same position on the board as a natural stance. An ollie is when a rider springs off the tail of the board into the air. A shifty is when the rider rotates their board about 90° from its normal position beneath them and back again. Rolling down the windows (aka flailing) is when a rider is out of control and waving their hands in the air.
