The Back Story:

Exceptional Aerial Fighter

One experienced pilot in the Sopwith Camel Fighter was a force to be reckoned with in the skies above the
trenches during the first World War. The agile little British aircraft could easily out-maneuver larger German-built planes. Twin machine guns mounted side-by-side under a humped fairing in front of the
cockpit led to its name.
By the end of the war, Sopwith pilots had shot down 1,294 enemy aircraft more than any other fighter. These victories did not come without a price, however. Flying the Sopwith was challenging - and often deadly -     because of tendency to go into a spin on take-off. Still, the Sopwith contributed mightily to Allied aerial superiority.
