In crafting this lovely piece, the artist wanted simple, easy to read wording so as not to compete with the elaborate design of the Sun.She found her inspiration in a child’s book of poetry.
The simplicity of the verse plays nicely against the ornate lines of the artist’s pen in forming this beautiful example of a Calligram – the merging of words and another art form, practiced by artisans for over a thousand years.
About the Artist: Mimi Armstrong has taught calligraphy, illumination, layout and design for many years at the Smithsonian Institution and Trinity College in Washington, D.C. She is a published author and popular
freelance artist, living in Annapolis, Maryland.
