Tiger Stripes
The Back Story:
The Mark of The Tiger
In the case of the tiger, its distinctive stripes enable these solitary predators to blend with the environment and “hide” from their prey. It is thought that the black stripes look like shadows, breaking up the animal’s outline in tall grass. Most tiger’s coats are rusty-reddish to dark orange, depending on where they live, with stripes of solid black double bars fused together at the ends along the back and sides of the animal. No two tigers have the same pattern.
Nature’s patterns are both beautiful and practical. An animal’s fur pattern, for example, is unique to its species. Whether stripes, spots or some variation in-between, the purpose is camouflage.
