Celtic Knots
Interlacing patterns and closed-loop designs have come to symbolize Celtic art and its influence on European history and culture. Early Celts were a group of tribes loosely tied by similar language, religion, cultural expression and a warrior mentality that contradicts the unity and interconnectedness of the symbols attributed to them. The Celtic people have mystified anthropologists and historians for generations. They were a non-
literate culture whose history was preserved through oral tradition. Their interaction with other cultures bordering the lands they occupied was often competitive. These included the Greeks and then the Romans who labeled them as “barbarians” when they encountered the Celts in present-day England.
