The Celtic Knot - Celtic Knotwork & Interlace
As there are no written records from the original era of celtic knot development, and thus we can only speculate on any meaning. A general rule of thumb is: Circles represent unity or eternity, spirals reincarnation or cycles of life and rebirth, triangles and trefoils the threefold dominions of earth, sea and sky, squares or four-fold shapes are shield knots or symbols of protection from spirits or malevolent influence. Knotwork designs vary from the elegant single and doubleknot patterns to the very sophisticated interlaced patterns. Interlacing within any of these shapes is said to express the repeated crossings of the spiritual and physical paths in our lives.
