The Back Story:

Cable or Street Cars

“Cable Cars” is a system using rail cars that are transported by a continuously moving cable running at a constant speed. Individual cars stop and start by releasing and regripping this cable as required. San Francisco’s cable cars are the oldest and largest system in permanent operation since 1878.

“Streetcar” refers to transportation using electric vehicles that run on rails. Streetcars are part of the ongoing renaissance which is bringing new life to American urban centers; as more Americans return to the city, the need for improved urban transportation solutions becomes ever more important.
