The Back Story:
Cana Island
First lit 1870, the Cana Island Lighthouse is built exclusively of cream colored Milwaukee brick. The tower rises approximately 82-feet above lake Michigan. In 1902, the tower was reinforced by steel plates and painted white. Automated in 1944, this light is maintained by the Door County Maritime Museum & Lighthouse Preservation Society as a historical landmark and local museum.
About the Artist: Paul M. Bradley Jr., an architect by profession, began drawing lighthouses after a New England vacation sparked his interest in the structures. His drawings appear quarterly in the Keeper's Log, a publication of the U.S. Lighthouse Society (www.uslhs.org).
