The Back Story:

Anishinabek - The Human Beings - North American Indian Art Symbol

Anishinabek is a self-description often used by people belonging to the indigenous Odawa, Ojibwe, and Algonkin peoples of North America, who share closely related Algonquian languages.  The term “Anishinabek” translates in many ways, including “ the beings with bone, flesh and spirit”, “human persons”, “the good people (that are on the right road or path given to them by the Creator)”, and “the First or Original people” or “the real people”.    Traditional beliefs reflect the understanding that we are all related to and depend upon the beings in all other parts of the universe, including the four legged and plant beings with whom we share Mother Earth.
