The Back Story:
Cowabunga!
The term ‘cowabunga,’ a slang term from 1960’s surfer culture, was originally used as an exhilarating expression while riding the waves. This year the Orange County Fair initiated its own cowabunga expression of a wow experience. On the morning of July 26, 2007, cowboys in full gear, drove a herd of Hereford cows more than a mile down the sands of Huntington Beach, California. Residents stared at the unusual twist of horse-riding cowboys and wave riding surfers on the same beach. The event also highlighted the annual U.S. Open of Surfing being held south of the well-known pier.
