Roosevelt & Muir at Yosemite

The Back Story:

Roosevelt & Muir - Force of Nature

In March of 1903 John Muir and President Theodore Roosevelt met and went camping high above Yosemite Valley. Muir took full advantage of the opportunity, calling for Roosevelt’s help to save the trees and preserve the natural beauty of the region. Roosevelt was very impressed with Muir, and the experience re-enforced his conservationist stance.

Over the rest of Roosevelt’s administration, he set aside over 148 million acres of forest reserves.

The people of the United States will long reap the benefits of a program which was strongly supported around their campfires in what is now Yosemite National Park.
