Beachcombing Treasures
Seashells, beautiful little gems of the sea, are left behind by marine animals that once lived in them. As they reveal themselves in the surf with every wave, shell collectors of all ages scurry across the sand to claim a prize that has just come to light. It’s like perusing a gallery of natural art forms on the beach.
The most familiar seashells are the external shells of marine mollusks, such as clams and snails, although other kinds of sea animals, such as crabs and sea urchins, also discard their hard exoskeletons. Every shell collector has a favorite variety that catches their fancy. What’s yours?
