Celtic Knot
The delicate twists and turns of Celtic symbols are popular motifs in jewelry, art and decorative textiles. The meanings behind these ancient designs have been lost over time, but historians and archaeologists generally assign them spiritual significance. Today’s stylized representations of knots and braids often include linked hearts, Christian crosses, shamrocks and other folk symbols typical of the lands where the Celts lived in the Eighth and Ninth centuries A.D. and with which they are most associated, i.e. Ireland, Wales and northern Scotland.
In truth, the Celtic peoples’ existence can be traced over more than 25 centuries in lands stretching from the British Isles to Galatia (modern-day central Turkey.)
