The Back Story:
American Bald Eagle
The American Bald Eagle represents freedom. Soaring on the tops of lofty mountains, amid the solitary grandeur of nature, they have unlimited freedom. They sweep in to the valleys below or upward into the boundless spaces beyond. It is no wonder they have become the symbol of the American people. On June 20, 1782, the Continental Congress adopted the eagle for the Great Seal. It is said that at one of the first early morning battles of the American Revolutionary War the noise of the struggle awoke the sleeping eagles and they flew from their nests circling over the heads of the patriots, who cried out, "They are shrieking for Freedom!"
