King of Clubs Playing Card

The Back Story:

King Of Clubs

The King of Clubs’ identity is generally assigned to Alexander the Great (356–323 BC) the ancient king of Macedon, but also to Charlemagne, who ruled France from 768 AD until his death in 814 AD. In fortune-telling with playing cards, the King of Clubs signifies a kind-hearted, generous man with dark hair.
Tradition plays a role in the design of standard playing cards. Today’s “court” (or face) cards first appeared in decks designed in France. Theories about which famous personalities from the past are depicted in a modern deck’s 12 face cards abound, but none is proven. Every card enthusiast – players, collectors, gamblers and card trick performers alike – has their favorite image.
