Queen of Hearts Playing Card

The Back Story:

Queen of Hearths

The Queen of Hearts in the standard deck of English origin is thought to represent Elizabeth of York, queen consort to Henry VII, and the only English Queen to have been a wife, daughter, sister, niece and mother to English Kings. In the French deck, she represents Judith, a Biblical heroine.
Tradition plays a role in the design of standard playing cards. Today’s “court” (or face) cards first appeared in decks designed in France. Theories about which famous personalities from the past are depicted in a modern deck’s 12 face cards abound, but none is proven. Every card enthusiast – players, collectors, gamblers and card trick performers alike – has their favorite image.
